Out-of-hours GP (Residents)

What is it?

The out-of-hours GP service is a primary care out-of-hours service, which gives you assistance when your general practitioner (GP) or paediatrician is unavailable.

The out-of-hours GP only deals with health problems that cannot be put off till the opening of the GP or paediatrician’s clinic.

What does he/she do?

When strictly necessary, the out-of-hours GP can:

do home visits
write a medical prescription
give sickness certificates valid for a maximum of three days
suggest hospitalization

Do I have to pay?

The service is free of charge for FVG residents. Remind yourself to bring your ID and your Health Insurance Card. If you are a tourist, you have to pay a ticket.

When is it available?

The out-of-ours GP is usually available at night, on Saturdays and Sundays, during holidays and holiday eves. E.g. April 24^th (holiday eve) and April 25^th(holiday). Always check timetables and phone numbers.

Do not call for:

medical emergencies. In this case you should call 112
medical examinations or if you need to see a specialist. In this case you should call your GP

For standard requests, you should call your GP. If you have problems contacting your GP, you should call your Local Health Authority (Azienda Sanitaria Locale – ASL).
